District 3
The Artist
"Creative, thoughtful, and endlessly curious. District 3 is the friend who shows up with a vintage film camera, knows the best hole-in-the-wall galleries, and can talk for hours about the layers of history hiding in plain sight. Sophisticated but never pretentious, local but welcoming."
District 3 is where Saigon takes a breath. Named one of the world's coolest neighborhoods by Time Out Magazine, this is the district that locals claim as their own—quieter than District 1, but no less vibrant. It's where artists, writers, and anyone who values good coffee and better conversations gather.
The streets here tell stories. Pasteur Street stretches through the district's heart, home to the legendary Pho Hoa—a Michelin Bib Gourmand spot that's been ladling perfect bowls since 1968. Around the corner, Vo Van Tan street blooms with independent boutiques selling Vietnamese designer fashion you won't find anywhere else.
But it's the alleys (hẻm) where District 3 truly shines. Alley 287 on Nguyen Dinh Chieu opens onto a secret world of hidden cafes. Hem 113 on Vo Thi Sau is a narrow corridor lined with specialty coffee shops where baristas pour art into every cup. In these spaces, time slows down—ceiling fans spin lazily, condensation drips from glasses of ca phe sua da, and locals sit for hours reading, working, dreaming.
The centerpiece? The pink-hued Tan Dinh Church, a pastel confection of Romanesque architecture that's become an Instagram sensation but remains, first and foremost, a working church where grandmothers pray and weddings bloom every Sunday.
